HEY YUGIOH FANDOM (ALL SERIES)
What do YOU want to see yugioh in the US do?I may be able to forward your responses to someone who can listen and take YOUR opinion into account and we could see changes faster as a result, but I need YOUR input! This person has said that 4K has tried to listen to fans over the last few years and now they are in a position to help expand the brand/ a.k.a WE CAN GET NEW STUFF
If you haven’t noticed 4K has made quite a few positive steps to address fandom needs such as:
1. having the whole/most yugioh series on netflix, crunchyroll, etc
2. More advertising (outside of TCG)
3. fully voicing Duel Links
4. Bringing the voice actors to premiere YGO TCG events
5. Bringing Takahashi to SDCC 2015/WCS 2016
6. Merch (i.e. ygo monopoly) etc
7. Bringing ygo series to DVD
So please reply/reblog with your response!!
examples:
- more interaction with the fan community (encourage cosplay?)
- new art assets for merch
- simulcast ARCV/Next yugioh series with Japan via streaming service (i.e. crunchyroll) and/or broadcast dub consistently on television
- “IRL (in real life) duel disks with actual VR when”
- Working with anime conventions to perhaps bring staff/crew/cast (JP or EN) more non-TCG presence (the ads at AnimeExpo were nice and booth at San Diego Comic Con)
Reblog/share with other fans/friends you know! There is no deadline but the faster i get responses the faster I can compile them to send them off!
A simulcast for the next series would definitely be great. I love that we do have more legal subs than we ever thought possible. Even DM subs seemed extremely unlikely for the longest time, so I do appreciate the advancements in that area. I think a simulcast would be good step forward there as well. They often wait for the DVD quality and that does allow for the best looking episodes possible to be uploaded, but that does mean that it takes a lot longer for more recent series to be subbed and that potentially weakens the money they could make from legal subs, especially when most fans would have already watched fan subs way beforehand. Plus, I’d love to be able to support the show and industry sooner through a simulcast. I imagine that they can get DVD quality later on when they’re available, but I don’t know how that would work exactly. Regardless, legal subs sooner would be a good way to help give the series more legal presence online and potentially give them more revenue.
A broadcast dub sounds nice and I wouldn’t be against it, but I honestly don’t know if they have the resources to do that right now. I think a simulcast would be easier to manage, especially if Crunchyroll helps them out with the subs. Plus, I have other suggestions for the dub. I think that they really need to hire more voice actors and make less unnecessary changes to the script/dialogue. The voice actor talent pool in New York has been extremely small for a long time. They probably don’t want to or more likely can’t just move to another area where there are more voice actors around, but I do think it would be nice if they could maybe use voice actors from a different state. Funimation has made dubs with voice actors in both New York and Texas or California before, so maybe something like that could work.
I understand that they have to make some changes with the script, such as the dub names, but they add in way too much bad dialogue, jokes and random accents. Sometimes, it works, but more often than not, it doesn’t. For goodness shakes, they were still adding in fat jokes in Arc-V and that was tasteless to do back in GX. Not to mention that their script changes have led to creating plot holes and making the characters drastically different from the Japanese version. I honestly think these kinds of changes are a big factor as to why none of the spin-off series have taken off in the U.S. It can be hard to take a situation seriously if there’s bad dialogue during it or if the show in general talks down to kids. As a side note, they really need to find a better way to air the dub on TV instead of just relying on Nicktoons, as well as finding a better way to put the dub online than just using iTunes.
Ideally, I’d love to see a redub of every series, but I don’t know if that would be too plausible. I could see enough demand for a DM redub, but I don’t know about every other series. I’d gladly buy a DM redub though, especially if it could help with the other series getting that kind of treatment. I do love the legal subs and I always appreciate them so much, but I still wish I could own the subbed episodes myself. Including the subs with the dub on DVD would be awesome. If not, putting subbed episodes to buy on iTunes would be neat, although I don’t know if that would be too difficult with whatever deal they have with Crunchyroll and/or the Japanese companies involved with the series.
I’d absolutely love more merchandise, especially for the spin-off series. I understand that DM is the most popular and recognizable series in the U.S., but I really wish that the spin-off series got even half of that attention merchandise wise. Japan has some really nice merchandise and it is a bit tricky to rely on ebay or other sites to import that merchandise. Some keychains featuring some of the more popular characters from each series would be neat. I’d love to see stuff like figures and some cosplay items, such as Yuya’s goggles, being made. Plush toys of some popular monsters would be really cool too.
I’d really like to see if it would be possible to get more voice actors from both the Japanese versions and dubs to show up at anime conventions throughout the country. There are plenty of voice actors from both the Japanese versions and dubs that I’d love to meet. It’s pretty rare to see even dub cast members getting attention and it’s mainly at World Tournaments. It might be harder for the Japanese voice actors to come for anything besides a major event or convention, but it would be really nice to see them being included and for fans to meet them as well. A U.S. take on a Yu-Gi-Oh! Cafe featuring merchandise and voice actors would be neat, although I’m not sure how would work exactly.
I really wish that there were more Yu-Gi-Oh! video games. I don’t play the card game outside of video games and I’ve been enjoying Duel Links so much. I didn’t realize how much I missed playing the card game until I started playing it. I enjoy the gameplay and the voice acting was a neat surprise, but it made me wish that Yu-Gi-Oh! video games weren’t such a rarity. I seriously wish that there was an Arc-V video game for the 3DS or any Nintendo system that they could work with. Every other series has at least one video game for it and aside from arguably Tag Force Special, Arc-V doesn’t really have one and that is a shame when it is still by far my favorite series in the franchise. I would buy or download an Arc-V video game in a heartbeat. I know that we’re getting a new series, but I’d still love either a World Championship style game playing through the storyline of Arc-V, especially when I miss that series so much, or playing as the characters similar to the Zexal Duel Carnival game, although hopefully not cut into pieces like that game was for its release outside of Japan. If they think that mobile is the way to go instead of video games, I’d be pretty happy with a Duel Link-like game for every series too. Each game could focus on a different set of characters from their respective series, expand the cardpool and include the more advanced summoning methods once 5D’s is included. I’d still prefer an Arc-V video game the most, but a series of mobile games for each of the spin-off series that captures the simplistic, yet fun appeal of Duel Links, improving on it with more features/cards available and give some much needed love to all of the spin-off series would be good too.
While this was a long list, I really do appreciate that 4K Media has made such vast improvements for the franchise and wants to do more as well. I remember when just getting the dubs on DVD was a pipe dream. Now we have legal subs and the dubs on DVD. It is amazing and I do appreciate their work in that regard. I hope that they’ll be able to look through all of these fans’ suggestions and help to give the franchise even more attention.
